Church – confirmation service

Eight members of OBH were confirmed by the Bishop of Dunwich at a special service at St. Mary‘s, Thorpe Morieux. Taking as his text from Luke‘s Gospel The Road to Emmaus, the Bishop spoke about how God comes alongside us as we journey through life and how, as Christians, we need each other‘s support whether we are older or newer members of the Church.

21 May           Walking with the Wounded – sponsored walk

‘We’re on the road to nowhere….’

Last Saturday was the whole-school sponsored walk in aid of Walking With The Wounded. The day had dawned with brilliant sunshine, the children and staff were raring to go and the parents were arriving. It seemed that nothing could go wrong…. And then it did! Due to some slight technical hitches involving maps and turnings the school found itself on a ramble around the Suffolk countryside, missing out the juice and biscuit stop – which is extremely unlike the OBH community – and happening upon some unlikely walking companions. Dr Marshall is still extremely disturbed by his brush with death by lama trampling.

Despite the mishap, the weather stayed fine, both parents and children enjoyed their walk and most importantly everyone managed a very respectable mileage for the charity, some quite a few more miles than they thought they would. As a very wise man said recently in school assembly ‘things don’t always work out the way we want or plan but a positive attitude is always helpful in life’ .

Staring into the face of challenge and adversity seemed quite fitting considering where our sponsorship money is going. Walking With The Wounded is an extremely worthwhile charity who will no doubt be extremely grateful for the tremendous sum we have raised – £3500 at the last count – with more still coming in. It is our hope that we will be able to welcome members of the team back into school to collect the cheque. For anyone still wishing to make a donation the web site http://www.justgiving.com/ OldBuckenhamHall will remain live until next Friday (3rd June) a big Thank You to the many parents and friends who have donated and who joined us on the day. I am sure it will be a talking point for some time.

You will be pleased to hear that we are considering orienteering and map reading skills as a future staff training day!
