Leaving OBH in the dark, at 4.45am on Sunday 12th March, I contemplated whether we could possibly repeat last year’s stunning successes, or was it just first time lucky? How could I have doubted the team? OBH ski team were no flash in the pan, fly by night, here today – gone tomorrow type. No, they were returning to conquer and firmly establish their name on the prep school ski circuit.
Training was intensive; the boys practised gates, after gates, after gates again, tuck positions, exploding starts, skiing on one ski…. As well as fitting in a packed après ski programme including discos, shopping, quizzes, movie night, pizza… oh, and prep….
Qualifying day dawned, the sun shone and the boys flew down a new course in Temu. Excellent times meant everyone went through to the Championship competition.
More training ensued, running orders debated and then it was Thursday. The dining room was silent at breakfast as 250 children forced down food, donned their bib numbers and left to inspect the course.
Rupert set the tone for the team with a blistering 39.27secs; every-one followed in his tracks and successfully completed the course. We waited impatiently for the evening prize giving. The results were spectacular!
