Art

The principle aim of the Art Department is to promote the creative pursuit of knowledge and learning, encouraging pupils to always try their hardest, by persevering whatever their obstacles. All pupils are expected to push the boundaries of their knowledge, experiment with new techniques and learn from successes and failures alike. The Art Department aims to help pupils foster a greater sense of self-belief.

The curriculum is delivered in a purpose built Art Studio, fully equipped with a printing press, kiln and Smart board. Central to this is the core skill of drawing from observation, which is the basis of artistic expression. A broad range of disciplines are taught covering Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics and Sculpture. There is a strong contextual element to practical work and pupils study Art, Artists and different cultures which act as an impetus to all projects. During extra-curricular activities, big free time, in evenings and weekends, pupils have the opportunity to develop their skills, try out new techniques or prepare portfolios for Art Scholarships to Senior School.
