“People will not look forward to prosperity who will not look back to their ancestors.”
The main aim of the History department is to instill in the children a high level of enjoyment and curiosity about studying history; to light a spark of enthusiasm about the study of the past that will stay with them always.
We develop in children the skills necessary to investigate the past and then present their findings through different mediums. The children are given a broad range of cultures and periods of history to study: both ancient and modern, both of this country and abroad. Chronology and themes are reinforced so that children can identify how these episodes fit together to shape our modern world. We aim to create independent, skillful and thoughtful learners.
We also use the study of the past to encourage valuable qualities which are relevant to all aspects of life: tolerance, discernment, global awareness and respect.
The curriculum is enriched with trips and visits to local sites of historical interest.
