The nursery school
An early foundations for a wonderful academic experience

The purpose-built Nursery is housed in the Pre-Prep Department of the School. It is well-equipped and children enjoy a friendly and stimulating environment in which they are encouraged to achieve their potential in preparation for entry to the Reception Class, the first year of the Pre-Prep.

Break times are spent in the secure surroundings of the Old Walled Garden which has been furnished to meet the requirements of little people. Children enter the Nursery in the January, April or September following their second birthday. Most children in the Nursery continue through the Pre-Prep into the Prep School but it is not a condition of entry. However, in the event of a shortage of Nursery places, preference will be given to children entered for the Pre-Prep.

During term time the Nursery opens at 8.30am and closes at 3.30pm from Monday to Friday. The morning session finishes at 12 noon when children not staying for the afternoon may be collected (before lunch) by their parents. After School Care from 3.30pm until 6.00pm can be arranged through the Head of the Pre-Prep.

It is vital that we work closely with parents to ensure a happy transition from home to Nursery. A weekly Mother and Toddler Group is held in the Nursery every Thursday afternoon during term time providing children with the opportunity to meet the Nursery staff and familiarise themselves with the surroundings before starting the Nursery.

The Foundation Stage curriculum is based on learning through play, talk and new experiences. The curriculum covers the following areas of learning: personal, social and emotional development; communication; language and literacy; mathematical development; creative and physical development and a knowledge and understanding of the world.
