In spite of the blustery conditions, the OBH teams performed admirably last Sunday. After relocating our catering marquee from various parts of the Park the OBH sevens managed to start at 11:00am sharp welcoming 16 teams!
OBH was delighted to welcome visiting referees who included: Tyrone Howe – ex British & Irish Lions, Rugby coach for Uppingham School and commentator for Sky TV, Toby Makhzangi – rugby coach for Uppingham School and Paul Rowland – Chairman of Ipswich Juniors RFC.
The boys played to a superb standard of rugby. In the U11 tournament St. John’s triumphed over The Abbey in the Plate final. The standard of rugby in the Cup semi’s was extremely high. Dame Bradbury’s played some excellent rugby beating Bury RFC while Sudbury RFC overcame Ipswich RFC. The U11 final saw Sudbury play some flowing rugby beating Dame Bradbury’s and thoroughly deserving to be champions for 2012.
In the U13 competition both group stages were keenly contested with New Hall topping group B followed by OBH and Barnardiston and Ipswich School finishing first and second in group A. In the Plate final Holmwood House lost to Langley, who improved as the day went on. In the Cup semi-finals OBH lost to Barnardiston while New Hall beat Ipswich School. The final was a hard fought contest with Barnardiston’s speed and skill just too strong for New Hall.
