Boys’ 1st XI win Oakham Tournament

Boys’ 1st XI win Oakham Tournament
The 1st XI travelled to Oakham for their annual tournament in a confident mood having won the County tournament at the start of the week. The three opposing teams always play a high standard of hockey and OBH would need to be at their best if they were going to clinch the title for the first time since it began 10 years ago. Arriving on Saturday the first game was against Bilton Grange. OBH dominated the game throughout restricting the opposition to only three shots on goal one of which produced a superb save from Archie in goal. Upfront Pep and Finn calved open the Bilton defence on numerous occasions and with Josh and Archie on top of their game the goals flowed. 3-0 at half time became 5-0 by the end. Special mention must go to Freddie who played superbly. This meant that the team could really enjoy the cricket coaching and swimming put on by Oakham during the evening. After a good night’s sleep, an excellent breakfast and Chapel it was back to the competition and Beeston were up next. An early goal calmed the nerves but a mistake at the back let Beeston level the score. 1-1 at half time required an even better performance in the second half and this they produced. After a hefty blow to Billy’s cheek the team played with a great deal of passion and some excellent goals completed a 4-1 win. After a 30 minute break the final game was against holders Oakham. In a very good match OBH took a 2-0 lead only to give away a penalty flick and take the score to 2-1 at half time. Goals were then shared and as the final whistle went there was nothing more the tem could give as they completed a 4-3 win. At the presentations as well the trophy for winning the tournament Josh and Pep were each awarded one of the four players of the tournament with Pep scoring an outstanding goal in each of the three games and Josh leading the team superbly.  An excellent team performance where everyone played their part and a fantastic way to end a memorable week!
