Congratulations to Francis Topham-Smith who won the Suffolk Hunt Tetrathalon last weekend. On Saturday he came 1st in the shooting, 3rd in both the swimming and running and on Sunday he won the whole Tetrathlon on his pony Piri. Francis came away from the competition with the trophy, a big blue rosette, one gold and two bronze medals around and for ciming 2nd overall in the Triathlon – large red Rosette!! A huge achievement as he was one of the youngest in his class.
In addition, the previous Sunday he came 3rd overall in the Essex North Tetrathlon – having come 1st in the shooting, 2nd in the swimming, 3rd in the running and 4th in the riding – another huge success particularly as, again, he was one of the youngest competing.
This summer, OBH will be hosting a tennis camp on 8th and 9th July as well as a mini tennis camp on 11th July.

Alan Carr’s Birthday party
The kitchen laid on a fabulous feast and party guests tucked in. The feast was finished off by Mrs Lennon’s sweetie covered chocolate cake. After the party tea the children were paired up and sent out into the grounds for a treasure hunt of faces of Alan Carr that had been hidden. Next came the good old fashioned games of pass-the-parcel with forfeits in each layer, musical statues and even a twist on the game pin the tail on the donkey with the children pinning teeth on Alan Carr!
Lots of prizes were won lots of laughs were had ! A great night with many thanks to aka Alan Carr -Mr Barrett , DJ -Mrs Warren and Merry Berry – Mrs Lennon and Party planner and photographer -Mrs Drake
A happy band of Year 6 and 7 pupils set off for Bewilderwood in the Norfolk Broads on Father’s Day.
We arrived with plenty of time to play on all the amazing equipment available in the huge, award winning forest of family fun and outdoor adventure. Treehouses, zip wires, jungle bridges, Crocklebogs, Twiggles and Boggles, storytelling, boat trips to choose from all made for an exciting day.
The OBH crowd thoroughly enjoyed the zip wires and bridges but the favourite of the day was the variety of death slides. Screams aplenty rang out all day. They even managed to persuade Mr Bunting and Mrs C to have a go.
The day ended with an ice lolly which just seemed to ‘hit the spot’ after much running around. A great time was had by all. Roast supper on our return was most welcome too!
The 2014 OBH creative writing book (Years 6-8) has now been published and is available from Amazon and called Brothers and Sisters and Other Stories. (Simply go to ‘books’ and type in OBH, making sure you buy this year’s book, not last year’s!)
As usual, the emphasis is on Year 8, then Year 7 and, finally, some Year 6.
Some pupils have a number of stories/poems inside, others only one. Because the book is ‘published on demand’ anyone who does not currently feature can send me their work and 48 hours later it can be in the updated book. For anyone who does not wish to buy a copy, I can send them an electronic version. Simply e-mail me:
Subjects this year include: WW1 trench life; Oradour (WW2); Arabian nights; stories narrated by animals; film teasers; diamantes.
Just a reminder that OBH will be welcoming Guy Steele-Bodger, Academic Registrar, Anne Naylor, Housemistress of Griffin House and Maurice Montieth, Housemaster of Sheriff House from Rugby School.
Any parents, either in Prep or Pre-Prep, who are interested in learning more about Rugby School as a senior school destination are very welcome to come along to find out more and have an opportunity to chat to the Rugby staff team.
We’re having a Birthday party for Alan Carr!
All Full Boarders (except Year 8 who will be away on their residential trip) will be off to Bewilderwood, a wild and imaginative adventure park with tree houses and all sorts based near the Norfolk Broads.
Leaving bright and early at 9.30 am the day will be full of adventure in the tree tops arriving back at OBH at about 5.30 pm
Year 3 & 4 will be performing their production based on three of Aesop’s Fables on Friday 20th June at 2.00 pm in the Drama Studio.
All parents and friends are welcome.
Congratulations to Archie Hainsworth who came 5th overall at the RS Tera European championships held last weekend at La Bruinisse in The Netherlands. Archie battled with tricky conditions and after the first day of racing was in first place.
