It has been a very busy weekend in the Boarding House at OBH. It kicked off on Saturday night with the Texas hoe-down extraordinaire which the children thoroughly enjoyed. All of the children entered into the spirit of the evening coming dressed in their cowboy and cowgirl best. The children all had a fun time trying to ride on the amazing Rodeo Bull, then there was Texan styled food and drinks, which included chips and dips, with mocktail margaritas followed by quesadillas, and finished off with an amazing ice-cream sundae bar where the children happily made their own fabulous ice-cream creations.
This was followed by a lesson in Line-dancing, taken by our very own resident line dancer Mr O’Sullivan. After the dancing the children moved back outside for more Rodeo Bull rides and Tin-can Alley, and lassoing practice. It was definitely a fun evening.
Sunday morning began with church at Thorpe Morieux where the children sang their hearts out and performed the readings beautifully. Many parents and grandparents popped back for coffee and tea and it was lovely to see you all there supporting them.
After a fabulous Sunday roast the Tri-it triathlon started. It was dis-aggregated to ensure no-one got too puffed out as, after all, it was a Sunday afternoon! The bike race set off in two trials and the children happily zoomed around the grounds, swiftly followed by the run.
After a short rest the pupils changed into swimmers and swam in year groups. Once all the results were in the children got changed quickly in time for the tuck at the sweet-shop and a well-earned rest! There were some notable performances especially in the younger year groups. The winners were Marcus Hall, Nick Gambier, George Whitelaw and Alejandra Leal, Ines Tobar and India deLabilliere.
It is wonderful that OBH will be joining us for our Harvest Festival at St Mary’s church Brettenham this year. As in previous years the churches in the benefice are donating our harvest gifts to the Stowmarket Area Foodbank . The foodbank is essential for those who have no where else to turn to, including in our rural villages, where such need often goes unnoticed.
If you would like to please do bring any harvest gifts (non perishables particularly, but some produce would be lovely too). Donations can be brought into school and put in the Drawing Room on Thursday and Friday next week.
The workshop is being led by Suffolk Soprano Sarah Gallop and Director of Music, Toby Dunham.
The Evening Concert will start at 7pm and feature a 30 minute recital by Sarah, accompanied by Marina Korneva. Sarah will demonstrate the versatility of a solo voice and inspire enjoyment in the process of performance. The Senior Choir will be taking to the stage in their first performance as a choir, and will perform the wonderful song, ‘Windmills of you Mind’.
The event will be open to the public to attend at no cost, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for tickets.
OBH will be hosting an Open Morning for prospective parents on Saturday 3rd October. If you would like to know more about OBH either for Nursery, Pre-Prep or Prep schools, then please do contact Jo Riddleston in the admissions office email@example.com .
The Boarding at OBH started off with a fantastic sausage sizzle prepared by the amazing kitchen staff. The children all tucked into sausages and burgers in buns and had ice-lollies for desert! After which we hit the pool where those on the side got just as wet as those who were in the pool! Mr O’Sullivan got a bit wet and has vowed revenge so bring on the sunshine for another pool party! Fun was definitely had by all. Those of us who weren’t quite brave enough to face the pool watched and ducked when water came our way and then took a guided tour of the grounds courtesy of the Matrons and Mr Chinnery. All of the new students were amazed by all the different varieties of fruit trees and the secret island.
On Sunday we all had a bit of a lie-in and had a relaxed PJ breakfast. After which we got ready for a Church service at Brettenham. The service was about treating everyone equally no matter how we look or where we come from and how we need to think of others before ourselves. Once back at OBH many of the parents who had attended the service came back for tea and coffee and it was lovely to meet them in the Drawing room.
Once we had our Sunday Roast, the children split into teams of 3/4 and attempted the Pirate themed treasure hunt,; the teams had to find some very unusual items including a blue button, a giant paperclip, an acorn, and one member of each the team had to dress up using various random pieces of kit. In fact one member of a team borrowed my beads so he could complete his outfit!
The children then had some down-time where they charged around the grounds on bikes and chatted in the common rooms. All in all it was a very action-packed weekend and we look forward to many more to come.

This Christmas holiday OBH will be running a fun and exciting ski trip to Montgenèvre, on the French Italian border, open to all children currently in Years 3 to 7.
We have chosen to travel with Equity as they are the market leaders in school ski tours in Europe and North America. We will be staying in Equity Club Les Rois Mages in Montgenèvre from Saturday 12th December to Saturday 19th December. The resort has been chosen for a number of reasons but skiing to the door of the hotel, being very child friendly and having a snow guarantee are all key factors.
The Equity Club package that we have chosen is totally inclusive. Flights, full board accommodation, lift passes and all ski equipment including helmets come as standard. We have also opted for 5 hours a day of ski tuition, which will give your child 30 hours of tuition. With an expert instructor and a small group of children of an equivalent standard. All of the evening entertainments are also included, as is a ski trip hoody! The total cost of the trip will be £925.
If you would like to find out more about the resort or Equity Club please visit www.schoolski.co.uk
If you have any questions about the trip please contact Hannah Wijnen in the school office who will be able to discuss the details with you. I will be leading the trip and will be accompanied by both Mr & Mrs Campbell.
