13 OBH children joined in with 350 budding musicians to produce a fabulous concert at the end of the day. After sectionals in which the strings studied the’ Largo’ from the New World Symphony and Offenbach’s ‘ Can Can’ , and the wind and brass learnt ‘Disco Lives!’ and Earth Wind and Fire’s ‘September’, the full orchestra came together and played ‘Frozen Favourites’.
Whilst it was a long day, it was an incredible experience for all involved and during the concert Uppingham’s own Big Band treated us to ‘Flight of the Foo Birds’- a fabulous Count Basie Number and Maynard Fergusons ‘Gospel John’. Every item in the performance produced an impressive and musical sound for those in the audience.
Many commented on the standard of yesterday’s event, saying it was possibly the best music day so far and it is certainly wonderful to hear other music teachers say how much their Grade 2 trumpeter had been inspired sitting next to somebody of Grade 7 who was only three years older – just goes to show how much can be achieved with a little regular practice!
All the children did their best, were exemplary in their behaviour and were a real credit to OBH.
