March, 2018:

Mrs Powell’s latest masterpiece, “Ye Ha!” was full of fun, humour and adventure. The children in Years 5 and 6 shine in this wonderfully wild musical comedy.

It is a tale of crazy cowboys, barmy baddies, masked heroes and hidden treasure – the gold in this case is certainly the children’s memorable performance. The enthusiastic cast capture the comical characters perfectly and raise the roof singing a selection of sparkling songs.

Mrs Powell has led her team brilliantly, nurturing the children’s confidence and enjoyment. This is OBH at its best, a real team effort.

IAPS Ski Champions

Another triumphant year for the OBH Ski Team in Passo del Tonale. We entered three teams into the championship and each team performed at the top of their game.

U9 boys team Champions gold medal

U11 mixed team Champions gold medal

U13 mixed team Bronze medal

The OBH team was ably lead by Rupert who won the overall fastest time on the course. For the second year in a row every member of the team has come away an IAPS medal holder!

Open Boarding Weekend: The Grand Masquerade Ball, Ampton Point to Point

After a week of almost tropical monsoon weather the boarders were ready for the Grand Masquerade Ball. Yes, Lord Buckenham again rolled out the barrels, the barrels of fun, as the guests who were dressed in all their finery danced the night away after a splendid dinner. And what a superb dinner it was with, of course, a wonderful chocolate marquise with vanilla terrine and a raspberry sauce. Everyone took a small breather after that whilst the auction began and prizes such as ‘Mad Hair Day’, an ‘Evening with Ben & Jerry’ and ‘Queue Bargers’, all went to the highest bidders.

Then it was time for the magician who had already astounded the guests when they arrived in the inner hall for drinks and canapés. On the stage in the dining room he unravelled things from out of nowhere, tied balloons in various shapes and sizes and stuck things through those balloons without them popping. Batman aided and abetted him at times whilst the children looked on  suggesting that they all knew how each trick was done.

Then Barbara’s dance class took centre stage as the first dance was a waltz. The boys had been practising all week and had made great strides ….which missed the feet of others….and happily led the way before the Top 20 tunes began to dance off the decks. The rocking dance floors continued as each year took their turn indulging in the chocolate fountain.

A wonderful evening was had by all who slept very well before a pyjama breakfast on Sunday morning, followed by church at Brettenham. The trip to Ampton for the point to point was fun although the inclement weather at stages tore across the hillside with people scattering for cover.

Everyone enjoyed a fabulous roast before settling in front of films with some tuck. Well done, to all the girls and boys for their efforts over the weekend.

Year 8 Science Trip

On Thursday March 15th the Year 8s set out for the NEC in Birmingham to visit the Big Bang Fair. This is a huge STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) event which is visited by schools from across the country. We all watched an interesting STEM presentation on one of the big stages before the children separated into their groups to visit a large variety of shows and demonstrations. These included building robots, learning about the use of technology in the armed forces, ‘Dangerous Equations’ ‘Operating Theatre Live’ and learning about medical research.
This was an excellent day out and gave the Year 8s some extra insight into the vast number of career possibilities available in STEM.

OBH Toddle Waddle & Fun Run

Plans are well underway for the eagerly awaited OBH annual Toddle Waddle and Fun Run. This year it will have an added dimension of children being dressed in their postponed World Book Day costumes. All the children will be involved and we are hoping that parents will join in too; either running, walking or supporting!

2.30 pm The Big Fun Run for Years 3-8
Perhaps by then we will be basking in Spring sunshine!
Any sponsorship money that you can help your children raise will be very welcome. The school office is ready to receive sponsor forms and monies as soon as possible. All the children should have a sponsor form to complete, click here to download a copy.
Donations can also be made on line via Virgin Money Giving using the Old Buckenham Hall page:
Funds raised will be split equally between the two charities.
Thank you for your support in helping to make this an event to remember.
