Year 1 visit Hedingham Castle

Year 1 enjoyed their trip to Hedingham Castle on Tuesday. The weather was perfect and the children had great fun learning about the castle and the ways of life during the Norman times. They met a Knight who taught them about the clothes he wore for battle and the weapons he used. The children learnt a medieval dance which they performed to entertain Lady Oxford to distract her from the bad week she was having. They were also taught how to joust and how plants can be used as medicine. After lunch they met Sam the Archer who demonstrated how a bow and arrow worked and the different ways of shooting them. The last stop of the day was at the basement of the castle where they were shown the variety of weapons that the soldiers used and some of the children even got to hold them and stand on-guard at the castle doors.
