The boarders had a great weekend sampling the delights of haggis during our Burns Night celebrations on Saturday evening. It was wonderful to welcome back Hamish Sugden who piped the haggis in with great authority. The clear sounds of the pipes continued after the Ode to a Haggis was read beautifully by Nolly and everyone tasted the collection of treats on offer. Barbara then performed some reels with the pipes being played by Alexa. Lucia was wonderful at demonstrating the techniques that had been taught and all joined in with great gusto. Having ‘Stripped the Willow’ several times and danced with ‘Gordon happily’, the children then relaxed in front of a film with some tuck.
Sunday was greeted with the Rattlesden Breakfast church service where the children represented the school very well. Marta read beautifully and the collection was taken by Nolly and Madison before we all helped to clear up before returning to school. After roast lunch, we walked and played outside in the ever freshening conditions before creating masks for our Chinese New Year celebrations. The masks were splendid and would have complemented Zorro in his hey day!! Shiyao produced the best mask although all the children were pleased with their efforts and rightfully so.
Since the weekend we have had birthday parties galore to celebrate. On Monday, Charlie celebrated his 13th birthday with all the Year 8 boys in the Drawing Room. His celebration was followed by another Charlie who celebrated his 11th birthday party on Thursday along with Lucia who turned 13. All enjoyed their choice of food and cake and we look forward to celebrating more birthdays before half-term.
