16th May 2019 | 8:45 am - 5:30 pm
The Science department are delighted to invite Years 5 and 6 to experience the wonders and delights that Colchester zoo has to offer!
The trip takes place on Thursday May 16th and we shall be departing school at 08:45, with an expected return time of 17:30.
Students will be able to see up close some of the animals that have been discussed in their science lessons and see conservation at work. There will be opportunities for students to explore the African plains, the rainforests of Ecuador, Borneo and Sumatra, as well as seeing how Colchester zoo is doing their part in saving endangered species.
Students have also been booked in for a talk during the day to further bring alive the valuable work Colchester zoo does in the important area of conservation entitled – Endangered Species – Why are animals endangered and what does that mean? What are some of the biggest threats facing endangered animals?
Topics covered include: threats to animals, habitat loss, over-harvesting, invasive species, and the illegal wildlife trade.
Students will be provided with a packed lunch and will be required to wear normal school uniform. Students are expected to bring a pen and pencil with them and it is recommended that they pack a suitable sunscreen!
They may bring a small amount of money for souvenirs, though they will be responsible for this.
